Colourpoint kat
History
Colourpoint cats are closely related to the Siamese and Oriental cat breeds with many organisations not even acknowledging the Colourpoint as a standalone breed. The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) is the only major registry to accept the Colourpoint as its own breed.
The goal for the Colourpoint cat breed was to produce cats that were Siamese in body shape but showed a wider variety of colours than the traditional Siamese colours (Chocolate, Lilac, Blue, Seal).
In the 1940s -1950s, breeders in the United Kingdom and USA began a concerted effort to create a new breed. Siameses were crossed with red tabby cats as well as Abyssinians before being backcrossed to Siamese again. Eventually there was enough success in the breeding programs and the CFA advanced the Colourpoints to championship status in 1964. The first colours to be accepted were the red and cream points, but the lynx and tortie points followed in 1969. The Colorpoint breed currently includes 16 colors, with body and head type identical to the Siamese.
Behaviour
Colourpoint cats share a lot of personality traits with the Siamese. They are talkative, intelligent and very sociable animals. They are the type of cat who will pester you for attention and let you know when they want something.
Many owners like to describe them as the perfect cat for a dog lover due to their larger than life personality and love of human interaction.
