Savannah kat
History
The Savannah cat is one of the newest breeds of cat and is causing quite a storm. The first Savannah (that is documented) was born on April 7th 1986. A female domestic cat mated with an African Serval and a female, hybrid kitten was born.
The kitten was named Savannah which is where the breed name comes from and she showed traits from both her Serval father and domestic mother. Two breeders called Patrick Kelly and Joyce Sroufe teamed up to develop the Savannah as a legitimate breed and collaborated to write up a TICA breed standard. TICA accepted the Savannah for registration in 2001. The Savannah was accepted for Championship status by TICA in 2012.
Behaviour
The Savannah is an incredible cat with a temperament that is quite unique to the breed. They are very athletic, often described as dog like and fiercely intelligent. They will bond strongly with their owners and crave affection and companionship.
